Effect of Mobile Phones on Kids

Today, the fastest growing section of mobile phone users are kids and young people. We cannot deny to the fact that mobile phones appeal a lot to kids and teenagers. But have you ever wondered why mobile phones attract so much to kids? The color, design and above all the features like ring tones, games etc, attract them so much that they find it hard keep themselves away from the latest phones. However, is it obligatory to provide mobile phones to kids aged 8-12? Well, providing mobile phones to kids may have some pros and cons. But the pros definitely win over the cons.

Parents give their children mobile phones so that children can make their use in case of any emergency. Having a mobile phone does provide protection like determining whereabouts of kids. Parents consider mobile phones an effective way to keep in constant touch with their kids. Also kids feel self confident when they are able to communicate with their loved ones. Besides making calls, the kids use mobile phones for sending text messages, playing games, listening to music and downloading ring tones. The latest mobile phones can replace cars, toys, gaming devices and much more.

With the drop in the prices of handsets and plans, parents have started giving away pay as you go phones to their children. An interesting survey states that most kids own pay as you go mobile phones. These phones allow kids to be in control by giving them specified amount of minutes to be used in a month.

Today, mobile phones are not just phones but also powerful computers which are web browsers, instant messengers and email terminals. So by providing a mobile phone in your kid’s hands, you are giving them access to the whole world. In the near future, probably mobile phone usage among kids would continue to increase and not surprisingly the average age at which a kid receives a mobile phone will fall.
